About the author

My name is Jessica, and WordRidden is my personal site. I’m an American living in England with an Irish husband I met in Germany—I guess that’s globalization for you. I make a living as a freelance German translator. In my spare time I obsess about food and play bass in an alt-country band. I also travel as much as I can, read voraciously, and go through intense periods of “craftiness”.

This site has been going for a lot longer than the archives would indicate. WordRidden started as an “online journal” back in 1999, when I was whiling away my time as a student in Germany. It was overhauled in 2002, and its present incarnation was launched in March 2006. I guess in Internet terms, it’s been around for an eternity. It serves me well as a place to gripe, to muse on being an American overseas, to share stories and to explore ideas (not necessarily in that order). But primarily, it’s a place for me to indulge my passion for the written word.

Thanks for stopping by—I hope you find something here that tickles your fancy.
