Ithaca (The Songs of Penelope, #1) by
December 2023
Continuing the Greek mythology kick, I generally enjoyed this take on Penelope stuck in Ithaca while Odysseus wanders around after the Trojan War. While it doesn’t reach the linguistic or narrative heights of Circe in my opinion, it’s a fun retelling of a familiar story from the women’s point of view. I felt a great deal of sympathy for Penelope and (much to my surprise) even for the generally more maligned characters from Greek myth who make an appearance here, including the goddesses. I didn’t absolutely love the book, but I did immediately buy and start to read the second volume in the series, so I guess that tells you something!
