The Ten Percent Thief by
March 2025
This is another novel I jumped into without knowing a single thing about it, and I was pleasantly hooked from the start. It’s set in a dystopian future Bangalore (renamed Apex City), where class/caste divisions are enforced by constant surveillance and a wall dividing the Virtual and Analog worlds. The book is a patchwork (or “mosaic” apparently) of vignettes told from different characters’ points of view. There isn’t a plot as such, though there is an underlying current, I would say, which begins to coalesce at the end of the book. The book is “part cyberpunk, part social satire”, as the author herself says, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
