Finn Mac Cool: The epic story of Ireland’s greatest hero by
June 2026
I wasn’t sure about this book at the start, but mainly because I think I wasn’t entirely in the mood for it (but I was traveling and it was on my Kindle, so…). But I became more engrossed in the story as it went on. I like how the fantastical elements of Finn Mac Cool’s mythos are explained away here…until they aren’t, or until things happen that make you unsure of what’s real and what’s taking place in the mind of a clearly troubled man. There are elements of Greek tragedy here, where people behave in ways you really, really wish they wouldn’t because you can see they’re going to lead to ruin, but their actions seem almost inevitable. In the end, I liked it overall.
