YES! USA 3 - Portugal 2! And the United States had to score one of Portugal’s goals for them! Even the BBC commentators had to admit that it wasn’t just a fluke - the USA played a genuinely excellent game (well, except for that own goal). We rule! We’re number one! U-S-A! U-S-A!

Yes, as is usual during things like the Olympics and the World Cup, I have a sudden interest in sports and a renewed pride in the country of my birth - and so I find myself sitting in my pajamas and shouting at the television at 10:30 in the morning when I really should be working. Ah well, it’s only once every four years, and it’s not every day that the United States does something amazing in "football".

Well, gotta go - the kick-off for the Ireland-Germany game is starting in the next few minutes, and Ireland probably needs all the long-distance moral support it can get. It doesn’t look like I’m going to get much work done today after all…
