Pompeii by Robert Harris

March 2005

I bought this book as an "airport novel" - as something to travel with, basically, because Quicksilver was far too big to lug around with me. As an airport novel, it made for pretty good reading. Although I found the first two-thirds of the book slightly unengaging, it was never actually bad, and once the volcano started to erupt (I'm pretty sure I'm not giving anything away here), I did get sucked into the story. I enjoyed Fatherland by the same author much, much more, but reading this was a fine way to pass the long hours on a plane.
