Master and Commander by Patrick O’Brian

Master and Commander: Far Side of the World is one of my favorite movies, and when my mom tore through the series of books and loved them, I knew I had to read them, too. At the start, I wasn’t sure whether I’d enjoy the novel or not—and by the end, I couldn’t put it down. I didn’t understand half of what was going on, what with all the foretopgallants and taffrails and other nautical terminology, but it didn’t actually matter; I was still caught up in the ship battles and personal intrigues and historical backdrop. A fun, rip-roaring yarn.
