Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant: Confessions of Cooking for One and Dining Alone by
October 2018
This book was recommended to me years ago by a friend who, like me, found herself on her own quite a bit while her other half traveled for work. I finally started reading it just recently, when I found myself on my own while Jeremy traveled for work. It’s an anthology of essays by food writers both living and dead. Some of them I enjoyed, some of them didn’t resonate with me, but they were all interesting in the way they revealed the private foibles and rituals of people cooking and eating by themselves. (Personally, I’m the kind of person who puts as much care into making food for myself as I do into making food for other people - “plating” and garnish and all - but judging by this book, I’m in the minority…)
