The Old Ways: A Journey On Foot by Robert Macfarlane

A beautifully written book about tracks and trails, lanes and pathways, mostly overground and mostly in the UK, and quite a lot down here in chalky Sussex. I read an excerpt from this book online (about the Broomway, a perilous trail in Essex) and was entranced, so I was delighted to find a second-hand copy of the whole book to read. It’s fascinating and meditative and has made me want to explore the landscape around me more - and also to return to W.G. Sebald’s The Rings of Saturn, which I haven’t quite gotten through yet.
