I’m not quite sure what to make of this book. I mostly found it a bit of a slog, and I have “no idea” what was “going on with” all of the “seemingly random” quotation marks on “every page”; I couldn’t work out why they were there, and they started to drive me crazy. I also sometimes found the language a bit stilted - but then there were other passages that I thought were really arresting. By the end, I was more drawn into it than I expected to be, and I very much enjoyed the unexplained, apocalyptic goings-on and the oppressively rainy atmosphere. And the final twist(?) completely took me by surprise. I don’t feel like the actually understood the book, but I’m glad I plowed through it.
