The second Kim Stanley Robinson book I’ve read, and the second I’ve found to be just a slog. One-dimensional characters whose motivations I don’t buy at all. Endless descriptions of things that have little or no bearing on the plot. A very, very slow-moving plot, about the last quarter of the book, when things suddenly get rather exciting and intriguing, and then…the book ends. Some nice ideas, but nice ideas aren’t all you need for a good book.
