What You Become in Flight by
December 2020
This is partially a memoir about ballet, but mostly a memoir about (female) bodies and minds, and their vulnerabilities, and the many ways that harm can be done to them—by others, and by ourselves. It’s a painful and occasionally tough read, and while the prose was sometimes self-consciously “writerly” and I wish there had been more about ballet in the book and less about some other aspects of the author’s experiences, I thought it was a generally well-crafted work.
