I knew nothing about this book before I launched into it (other than that it kept crossing my radar and a lot of people like it very, very much), and I really wasn’t sure about it in the first few chapters. I was sort of letting it just wash over me. But at some point I realized I was remarkably invested in these strange time-hopping characters and their perplexing worlds. When I was about halfway through and finally understood roughly what was going on, I went back to the start and skimmed over those opening chapters again, which then had much greater resonance. And by the end, I really, really cared whether the story would play out as I hoped it would. Nice time-travelly twists and surprising emotional weight.
