My new favorite thing.

Today I found my new favorite thing: it’s the Virtual Theremin.
I have no idea how long this has been tucked away on the BBC science site - quite a while, I suspect. I just found it by chance today in a very roundabout way (through a Taiwanese website on phonetics - don’t ask…), and I haven’t been able to leave it alone since I downloaded it.
Theremins are very weird in and of themselves, and this "desktop theremin" is no exception. The cool thing about this little virtual theremin is that you can play along with (really catchy) looped music at various speeds, throw in the occasional sample, get into a real trip-hop groove - and pretend you’re playing with Portishead. I’d say it’s even better than that Fatboy Slim remix game thingie that came on the special CD from the Guardian.
Hours of addictive fun for PC and Mac. Go get it!
