London 2005
Thursday, July 7th, 2005
Well, after the excitement and joy in London yesterday, it was a day of terror and sadness in London today. I’m fine and everyone I know in London is fine - but there’s only so much comfort to be had in that when 37 people are dead, 700 more injured (as it stands now), and both people’s nerves and the infrastructure of the city have been somewhat rattled.
But as Jeremy noted, the Londoners are taking all of this with a very stiff upper lip. And their composure and resolution is a big "screw you" to the bastards who think that bombing public transport at rush hour is something that is acceptable for human beings to do.
And yes, even Brighton station was closed for much of the day due to a suspicious package found there. But, as the BBC news anchor reported, when the package was blown up by the police, "the device proved not to be sinister" - a turn of phrase which, despite everything, made me kind of smile.

Well…as they say…you’ve "nailed it" - as has Jeremy. Mutti

Almost makes me want to go back to London and hop aboard a train just to give them a rousing f*** you!
But then again, I much preferred walking through the streets to riding the subway … you can see so much more.
Funny how people here in the states are suddenly acting like London may not be a safe travel destination … doesn’t anyone get it … unless you are in a war zone (and let’s not pretend that Iraq and Afghanistan are still war zones no matter what the shrub says) the days and weeks after an attack make that area practically bullet-proof because everyone is so aware of the possible danger!
I’m traveling to Berlin next year but that area now becomes more dangerous for it’s lack of violence … my head is now spinning and I’m going to go to work on something simple like web design!
