I did it!

I did it - I handed in my dissertation. I’m done! And for the first time since I don’t even remember when, I officially have nothing to do.
That’s not strictly true, of course. I do have quite a lot of things to do, but at this moment, there is nothing hanging over my head either work-wise or school-wise, no pressing deadline looming near, no notes to take, no proofreading to do, no library books left to clean up…
So, what am I going to do with myself now that I have all this free time on my hands? Well, I have a new project:

I can’t believe you’ve decide to learn Irish, after finishing your thesis. I had 12 years of it, and that was just about all I could take. Congrats on completion though, well done.

A big part of me envies you your 12 years of Irish, but another part of me knows that if it was forced down your throat in school, then it probably wasn’t a particularly pleasant experience. Still, it would be kind of nice to have a teacher - I’m pretty sure books and tapes will only take me so far…
And thanks for the congratulations!

I want to learn it too, but I don’t know if I have the required patience, and age is against me.
Whilst on holiday in Wales I waslooking at a "Teach Yourself Welsh" book.
Egad. Not sure I could’vegot furthe than "Bore Da"

Hee - I have a bunch of "Teach Yourself Welsh" tapes sitting at home myself. When I was about 14, I became obsessed with Wales and I was determined to learn Welsh. I never got beyond "Beth sy’ ‘yma? Aderyn sy’ ‘yma." - "What is that? That is a bird." I can also say "that is a fork", "that is a cliff", and "yes, that’s my dog". Handy stuff! I would still love to learn Welsh as well, so maybe if the Irish goes okay, I’ll retrieve those old Welsh tapes and give ‘em another go…
