North to Montana!

Saturday, May 13th, 2000

Well, I’ve been back in Arizona after my trip to Alaska for exactly one day, and tomorrow I am headed off to Montana to go to my little brother’s college graduation. So this is really just another update to say that there probably won’t be a proper update for about another week. But hang in there, everyone - I promise that, once I am in one place for more than about 48 hours, I will be able to think about sitting down and writing out all the details of all the adventures I’ve had.

To tide you over until then, I’ll just say that Alaska was absolutely fantastic. There were bears and bald eagles and sea otters and seals and glaciers and mountains and overwhelmingly majestic landscapes. After so much nature, it was a rude shock to get back to Seattle and be confronted with so much humanity.

And being on a ship for a week made me think once again that perhaps I was a sailor in a past life. There’s just something about smelling the salt sea and feeling the wind on my face as I stand at the bow of a boat and listen to the icy waters rushing past… I’m determined to take sailing lessons at the first available chance.

On that note, I’m off. It’s 1:30 in the morning as I write this, and I have exactly four and one-half hours to sleep before I have to get into a car and ride for 1400 miles (or two days, depending on how you reckon it). My jetsetting life is exhausting me.

Farewell until the next update, then…
