Holi-semi-dailies

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

So, I’m clearly having difficulty keeping up with the Holidailies thing this month; the holidays haven’t even started yet, and already I’ve fallen down on the job.

I guess I just forgot how incredibly painfully busy it is in the weeks leading up to Christmas vacation. Work always gets really hellish right around now, because everyone is trying to cram in last-minute projects before the end of the year. Then there’s the whole Christmas preparations thing: worrying about presents, making travel plans, trying not to forget everything that should be done before we head off to foreign lands. And then there’s the random stuff on top of that—like, on Friday, I was in the studio from noon until 9 PM with Salter Cane, mixing some tracks we recorded in the summer. It was great fun and really rewarding, but it meant that I had to cram a massive amount of work into Wednesday and Thursday to make up for that “lost” day.

So now that Christmas vacation is starting in a matter of days rather than weeks, I find myself waking up every morning with my mind absolutely racing with all the things I want to get done. I’d probably be a lot more productive if I put my energy into actually doing stuff rather than just worrying about doing stuff, but I’m a hopeless fretter.

Well, I reckon I’ll be more able to keep up with the daily blog posts once the holidays have started in earnest. I remember last year was like this as well. Even though we didn’t have any trip to plan last year, there was a mad rush of stuff to do right up until a few days before Christmas, when suddenly everything slowed down, brightened up and became really enjoyable. There should be a lot of “down time” once we get to Arizona, lots of sitting on the couch in front of the TV with a laptop on my lap, a glass of port in one hand and a mince pie in the other. I can’t wait.
