Sushi and Beyond by Michael Booth

I really wanted to like this book—it’s ostensibly about food in Japan, after all—but in the end I really didn’t, not least because the author made a lazy linguistic assumption (“The ‘z’ and ‘s’ in sushi seem to be interchangeable”) that even I, a novice student of Japanese, knew to be incorrect and that made me subsequently doubt everything else he had written. I also wanted more of the food and less of the me-and-my-family stuff. Disappointing.
