Another eerie book by the author of the Southern Reach trilogy. This one is somewhat more “human”, somehow, even though the titular character is not. Whereas the Southern Reach books felt quite chilly to me (in a good way - I quite like chilly), this has a beating heart. It’s still very unnerving and at times downright terrifying, but it’s also sometimes funny and sometimes surprisingly tender. I liked it a lot.
