East West Street: On the Origins of Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity by
April 2018
This is a very interesting book which entwines several personal stories with a number of legal journeys that culminate in the Nuremberg Trials. The personal stories are fascinating and harrowing, and the legal aspects are no less interesting, as the events in this book paved the way for international criminal law as we know it today. The author made a documentary film a few years ago, “My Nazi Legacy” (https://www.ft.com/content/618f8ad4-622f-11e5-9846-de406ccb37f2), which is really excellent and ties in with the book (or actually came out of the book). I highly recommend both the film and the book as explorations of family ties and the repercussions of history.
