Can you say that on the air?

Saturday, November 2nd, 2002

Up until today, I thought the funniest thing about the culture minister’s (perhaps not entirely unjustified) comments on the Turner Prize nominees was that all the suave BBC presenters were suddenly forced to constantly say the word "bullshit" in their posh accents.

But things got even funnier today. As I listened to Radio Four this afternoon, an irate elderly woman called in to rant about something or other (not the Turner Prize), and in the course of sounding off, she astonishingly used the word "bullshit" - and subsequently apologized for "getting conceptual". Hee.

As Jeremy said, the BBC has suddenly become like one long episode of South Park.
