Oregon pinot noir

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005

Though I have not seen "Sideways", I have become a big fan of pinot noir, particular the ones I’ve had from Oregon. We went through several bottles of the Big Fire pinot noir at a lovely (and now, sadly, non-existent) restaurant in St. Augustine, so when I was appointed the task of picking the wine recently at the wonderful Cafe Roka in Bisbee, I gravitated towards the one Oregon pinot noir they had on the menu, from Rex Hill vineyards. It turned out to be a splendid accompaniment to the food - it was gorgeous with the artichoke and portabello mushroom lasagne I had, which was slathered in creamy bechamel, tangy pesto, and a beautiful smoked tomato sauce.
