New Year

A belated Happy New Year to everyone! I just got back a few days ago from a warm, sunny Christmas in Arizona, where a houseful of friends and family ate and drank their way through the festive season. My mom and I had declared that this Christmas would center around family and food, and that’s just what it did. Over the course of two weeks, I had the pleasure (though no one seemed to believe me when I said it truly was a pleasure) of spending hours in the kitchen baking bread, pizza, mince pies and muffins, fixing up salads to go with my dad’s delicious goodies from the grill, and helping my mom cook Christmas dinner. Even my Christmas presents revolved around food: cookbooks, mugs, cheese boards, and an absolutely fantastic set of Henckels knives (which I have been learning to use with great care since I’ve been back in Brighton). I guess you know you’re a foodie when a carving knife makes you squeal with delight.

And while I’m on the subject of food, this seems like as good a time as any to announce a new project that Jeremy and I have embarked upon: a food blog! In true geek fashion, we’ve called the site Principia Gastronomica - catchy, no? The new blog hasn’t been going for very long so there’s still not a whole lot up there, but it’s gradually filling out nicely, and I for one am really proud of it. So if you want to find out how to make good vegetarian chili or where to eat in Barcelona, swing by and check it out.
