Four things and more.

Oh boy, a meme! I know it’s really un-hip to be excited about memes these days, but - well, I’m not hip, and at least it gives me something to write about. I’ve taken the meme one step further: in addition to writing about four things I’ve already done and seen, I’ve added things that I would like to do and see, and I’ve squeezed in a section about books as well. So here we go…

Four jobs I’ve had: Flower shop drone / Seller of Native American jewelry / Proofreader for German computer scientists / Freelance translator

Job I’d like to have: Food/travel writer

Four movies I can watch over and over: Any of the Lord of the Rings trilogy / Any of the original Star Wars trilogy / Blade Runner / Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Movie I want to see but still haven’t: The Company of Wolves (now finally out on DVD!)

Four books I can read over and over: Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco / 1984 by George Orwell / The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood / Fatherland by Robert Harris

Book I want to read but still haven’t: Mother London by Michael Moorcock

Four TV shows I love to watch: University Challenge / The Sopranos / Battlestar Galactica (new series) / Most “celebrity chef” shows

TV show I’ve never seen and never plan on seeing: Any of the countless permutations of Big Brother

Four places I’ve lived: / New Orleans, Louisiana / Terre Haute, Indiana / Freiburg, Germany / Hove, England

Place I could imagine living someday: Seattle, Washington

Four places I’ve visited on vacation: Sitka, Alaska / Glenelg, Scotland / Tbilisi, Georgia / Key West, Florida

Place I would like to visit: San Gimignano, Italy

Four of my favorite dishes: My grandma’s tocco / My grandma’s eggplant parmesan / Anything with confit duck / The oak-smoked salmon with whiskey butter sauce I had at the Ivory Tower in Cork

A dish I don’t particularly care for: Anything with tarragon or chervil - except for the steak-frites at Relais de l’Entrecote in Paris, where the tarragon in the sauce works really well.

Four websites I visit daily: Google / Language Log / The Amateur Gourmet / The New York Times

Website I rarely visit because he rarely updates, but when he does update, it’s some of the best writing out there: Idle Words

Four places I’d rather be right now: Closer to my family / Florida / Tuscany / Someplace with lots of medieval architecture

Someplace I’m happy not to be right now: Anywhere colder and darker than here.

Four bloggers I’m tagging: I’m not. I’m taking the meme-ness out of this meme and just talking about myself instead.
